Terms of Service & Sale
Last updated: 13 août 2026
These General Terms of Use and Sale (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the website pdfscene.com and the PDF Scene software service (the “Service”), published by Romain Mathieu (the “Provider”).
By accessing the Service or subscribing to a paid plan, you (the “User” or “Customer”) accept these Terms without reservation. If you do not accept these Terms, you must not use the Service.
1. Definitions
- Service: web application for editing, merging, annotating, and exporting PDF files (and related formats), accessible via pdfscene.com.
- Free plan: free access to the Service with unlimited editing and export; Free outputs carry an “Edited with PDFScene.com” watermark (non-editable link). See the Pricing page for details.
- 1-export offer: one-time payment for a single export / print / send / copy without a watermark.
- Pro plan: paid subscription for exporting, printing, and sending documents without a watermark, with no limit (PDF, images, Office, ZIP, etc.), and for access to the cloud AI assistant (included credits + optional top-up packs — see § 6.3).
- AI assistant: Pro feature that, on your instructions, proposes and applies editing actions via an artificial-intelligence provider ( OpenAI). Consumes credits.
- User Content: files, PDFs, images, text, and data that you import, create, or export via the Service, including messages sent to the AI assistant and the associated document context.
2. Purpose of the Service
PDF Scene provides PDF editing software that operates primarily in the User's browser. The Provider does not provide legal, accounting, or notarial advice. Results (OCR, layout, Office exports, displayed signatures, AI assistant suggestions, etc.) are provided “as is” and may involve technical approximations.
3. Eligibility and account
The Free Service may be used without creating an account. The Pro plan is subscribed via the payment provider Polar. You must have legal capacity to contract (adult or authorised) and provide accurate information when paying. Use of the Service for unlawful purposes is prohibited.
4. Local file processing — key commitment
Unless expressly stated otherwise, User Content is processed locally on your device. The Provider claims no ownership rights over your PDFs. You remain solely responsible for the lawfulness of your Content (third-party copyright, third-party personal data, confidential documents, etc.) and for backup copies.
Exception — Pro AI assistant: when you use the assistant, your messages and a structured representation of the document state (annotations, fields, page metadata — not the full binary PDF file) are sent to our API and then to OpenAI to generate the reply. By using the assistant, you authorise this processing. Details: Privacy Policy .
The Provider is not liable for loss of data stored only in your browser (IndexedDB / localStorage) in the event of cache clearing, device change, failure, or voluntary deletion.
5. Licence to use
The Provider grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. You may not: reverse-engineer abusively outside legal exceptions, extract the Service to create a competing service, overload the infrastructure, circumvent Free/Pro or AI credit limitations, or use the Service to distribute malware or unlawful content.
6. Free plan and Pro plan
6.1 Free
The Free plan is free, without commitment, and may be modified or withdrawn. It allows unlimited local editing and export; Free outputs include an “Edited with PDFScene.com” watermark (non-editable link at the bottom right). The 1-export offer removes that watermark for a single output action. The Pro plan removes the watermark with no limit for the subscription period and includes the AI assistant (credits — § 6.3). The conditions displayed on /en/tarifs/ and in the interface prevail in case of a minor discrepancy with these Terms.
6.2 Pro — nature of the contract
The Pro plan is a subscription contract for a digital service (access to software features), not the sale of a tangible good. Prices displayed are in euros, inclusive of tax (all taxes included), subject to applicable VAT rules (including Belgian VAT or EU OSS scheme depending on the consumer's location).
- Monthly subscription: 5,99 € / month
- Annual subscription: 49 € / year
The Provider may change prices for future periods with reasonable notice (display on the site / email communication). Continuing the subscription after the new price takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new price, subject to the right of cancellation.
6.3 AI assistant and credits
The Pro plan includes access to the cloud AI assistant: 2 500 credits included per calendar month (UTC) while the Pro subscription is active (including annual subscriptions). Unused included credits at month-end do not roll over; the included balance resets to the next period amount. Top-up packs (packs de 1 000 à 6 500 crédits (à partir de 1,99 € TTC)) may be purchased separately via Polar. Purchased pack credits add to the “purchased” balance and do not expire by calendar date for as long as the Service so provides; their use still requires active Pro access (the assistant is not available outside Pro).
Credits are debited based on usage (tokens / API consumption) and may be exhausted; the assistant may then be unavailable until you top up or the next calendar month begins. Assistant outputs (text, suggestions, applied editing actions) are provided “as is”. You must review them before professional use or distribution. The Provider does not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or fitness of AI responses. Abusive use (massive automation, credit circumvention, overload) may lead to suspension.
6.4 1-export offer and credit packs — prices
Unless otherwise shown on the Pricing page at the time of purchase:
- 1-export offer (one output without watermark): 2,99 € incl. VAT
- AI credit packs: from 1,99 € incl. VAT (e.g. 9,99 € incl. VAT for about 5 000 credits — the pack details shown at checkout / Pricing prevail)
“One output” means one export, print, send, or copy action without a watermark covered by the 1-export offer, as shown in the interface at the time of purchase.
7. Payment, billing, and payment provider
Pro payments are processed by Polar ( https://polar.sh ). Depending on Polar's contractual setup (processor and/or Merchant of Record), invoicing and charging may be issued by Polar and/or the Provider. Polar's terms apply to payment processing in addition to these Terms.
In case of payment failure, fraudulent dispute, or abusive chargeback, Pro access may be suspended immediately. Any taxes and bank fees remain your responsibility unless mandatory law provides otherwise.
8. Right of withdrawal (EU/EEA consumers)
In accordance with Articles VI.47 et seq. of the Belgian Code of Economic Law and Directive 2011/83/EU, consumers generally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract.
Exception — digital content / service started: for digital content not supplied on a tangible medium and/or services whose performance has begun with your express prior consent, and where you have acknowledged losing your right of withdrawal (checkboxes / confirmation at Polar checkout where applicable), the right of withdrawal may no longer apply once Pro access is activated (Art. VI.53 CEL).
If the exception does not apply to your situation, send your withdrawal request to support@pdfscene.com before the deadline expires, including information to identify the order (Polar checkout ID, email used, date).
9. Cancellation and refund
You may cancel the Pro subscription at any time via the Polar customer portal (when available) or by writing to support@pdfscene.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid: no pro-rata refund is due for a period already started, except (i) contrary mandatory legal obligation, (ii) valid exercise of the right of withdrawal, or (iii) a commercial gesture by the Provider.
The Provider may cancel or suspend access in case of material breach of the Terms, fraud, unlawful use, or security imperative, with notification where reasonably possible.
10. Availability, changes, beta
The Service is provided on a best-efforts basis. No availability rate (SLA) is guaranteed on the public offering unless separately agreed in writing. The Provider may modify, interrupt, or withdraw features, including Free, for maintenance, security, compliance, or product evolution. Experimental features may be unstable.
11. No absolute warranty
To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. The Provider does not warrant that the Service will be error-free, that OCR will be 100% accurate, that Office exports will be pixel-perfect, that the AI assistant will always produce the expected result, or that the Service will be suitable for critical use (medical, aviation, nuclear, etc.). You must verify your documents before professional use or distribution.
Nothing herein excludes mandatory legal warranties available to consumers (conformity of the digital service, etc.).
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Belgian and EU law:
- the Provider is not liable for indirect damage, loss of opportunity, loss of local data, loss of profit, reputational harm, or damage resulting from non-compliant use;
- the Provider's total liability in a dispute relating to the Pro plan is limited to the total amount paid by the Customer to the Provider (or via Polar for the Service) during the twelve (12) months preceding the triggering event;
- no limitation applies in case of fraud, intentional misconduct, physical integrity harm, or other cases where the law prohibits limitation.
13. Indemnification
You will indemnify the Provider against any third-party claim resulting from your User Content or unlawful use of the Service, unless the claim results solely from the Provider's fault.
14. Intellectual property
PDF Scene, the code, design, and associated trademarks remain the property of the Provider or its licensors. Your Content remains yours. You grant only the minimal technical licence necessary to operate the Service on your device (display, local export) and, if you use the AI assistant, to transmit the necessary context to OpenAI to fulfil your request.
15. Personal data
Processing of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy . For local Free use, the Provider generally does not access your PDFs. For Pro, transaction data passes through Polar; use of the AI assistant also involves the processing described in § 3.6 of the privacy policy (OpenAI).
16. Force majeure
Neither party is liable for failure due to force majeure under Belgian law (disaster, widespread Internet outage, act of government, etc.).
17. Changes to the Terms
The Provider may amend these Terms. The version in force is the one published on this page with its update date. For Pro subscribers, a material adverse change may be notified; you may cancel before it takes effect if you do not accept the new version.
18. Applicable law — disputes — mediation
The Terms are governed by droit belge. Mandatory consumer-law provisions of the EU User's country of residence remain applicable.
Before any court proceedings, contact support@pdfscene.com. Consumers may refer to the Belgian Consumer Mediation Service ( mediationconsommateur.be ). The European ODR platform has been discontinued; Belgian mediation remains the recommended channel. Failing agreement, and subject to consumer-protective jurisdiction rules, the tribunaux de l’arrondissement judiciaire du Hainaut (division Charleroi), Belgique shall have jurisdiction.
19. Miscellaneous
If a clause is held invalid, the others remain in force. Failure to exercise a right does not constitute a waiver. These Terms (together with the Legal Notice, Privacy Policy, Cookies policy, and Pricing page) constitute the entire agreement relating to the Service, subject to Polar's terms for payment.
