Highlight a PDF without hiding the text
Highlighting helps you find information in a long page: a clause, amount, definition, or sentence to discuss. It draws the eye while leaving the source wording visible.
Steps
- Import the PDF and go to the page you are studying.
- Activate Highlight and choose a readable color.
- Mark the passage without covering its characters.
- Review the exported copy and keep the marked version separate.
Highlighting is not covering
A useful highlight identifies the exact sentence or number that needs attention. A shape can frame a wider area, while added text can explain why the passage was marked.
Do not use it to hide confidential data: a colored mark is not redaction. For another recipient, remove the page or use a genuine, verified masking workflow.
Choose a color that stays readable
On a contract, a light color can flag a clause for negotiation without making the words difficult to read. For a checklist, use a stable convention instead of many unexplained colors.
Zoom into fine type, tables, and signatures. Check the printed copy too when the recipient will work on paper.
Review and export
Walk through marked pages in order and confirm that every highlight corresponds to a question or decision. Open the exported PDF to make sure marks did not shift.
Markup is created in the browser with the document. Free output carries its watermark; a clean-export credit or Pro removes it.
Frequently asked questions
Will highlighting make text hard to read?
It should not when the color is light and sufficiently transparent. Zoom in and check the export before sending.
Can I highlight one sentence?
Yes. Mark the exact area and check the words at both ends.
Does highlighting remove information?
No. It adds a visual mark and is not an eraser or redaction tool.
Can I use several colors?
Yes, but give each color a clear meaning so the review copy remains understandable.
